[ad_1]

You may be thinking that it is another fancy key-skill creating a temporary buzz everywhere but that is not how it is. The fact that every 9 out of 10 people know your business because of the internet proves the significance of online reputation management (ORM). Let's back track a bit and first focus on what ORM is all about. Reputation management, as the name suggests is an important part of creating a brand image. Since it is being done online (on various web and social media platforms) therefore, it is known as ORM. Not that this is the only difference between ORM and other forms of reputation management, but it is one of the most predominant ones.

Protecting the brand image as well as promoting it online has become all the more important with the advent of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. The good news is that businesses have many more ways of creating awareness about their existence. Some of the elements under ORM include:

1. Content Creation and Promotion : Content is the base of online brand management. You can not begin with the promotion until you have the content ready to be published on various online promotional portals. A strong content strategy is where you begin the ORM process.

2. Social Media Optimization : You must have heard about RSS feeds, bookmarking sites and social news; These are just a few ways of Social Media Optimization. In a nutshell, SMO is about using techniques and tools to drive more traffic to your site.

3. Strategic Planning and Implementation : Once we have the content ready and the SMO techniques shortlisted, we move to the step of strategic planning and implementation. How many posts on social media platforms per day and the frequency level of blogs to be updated on the company's website are a few basic components of reputation management planning.

4. Reputation Monitoring : Reputation Score, Google Alerts, Conversion Value are a few reputation management rules that accurately plot and calculate how people view your brand online. There are many more tools like Buzzlogic Insights, Buzzmetrics, Orchestra Platform and Cision Social Media.

5. Review Management : Managing the positive and negative reviews given by your customers online is an extremely significant part of Online Reputation Management. This comes at the execution part of ORM where you have to hide the negative reviews from appearing and the positive ones from showing up on search.

Many may have not heard about ORM directly but every person involved in corporate communications and brand management might be somehow involved in it. The skill is picking pace quickly!
